Features¶
Chartopia offers more than just a means to create and search for charts. There are numerous features to help organise and use them, from Collections, to embed links, to saving favourite results for later.
Chart View Toolbar¶
When viewing a chart, there are a range of options available in the toolbar.
Fullscreen¶
If viewing a chart via a popup, it's possible to see a fullscreen version of it by pressing the 'fullscreen' icon.
Print¶
The 'print' icon will take you to a printer friendly fullscreen version of the chart. It will have images removed and use simpler styling.
Edit Chart¶
If you are the owner of the chart, you can edit the chart by using the 'edit chart' option.
Embedding to websites¶
It's possible to embed public and unlisted charts into your own website. Note that your website will need to support iframes (the same system used when embedding YouTube videos).
To do so, view a chart, and press the button. It will show a dialog with the html that you can copy-paste into your website. Note that if you are embedding a chart that is not yours, the author can change the visibility settings at any time, resulting in an error in your website's iframe.
For convenience, the provided html includes a wrapping
Add to folder¶
The 'add to folder' icon will launch a dialog that gives you the option of adding that chart to a folder. You must be logged in to see this option.
Export all data¶
If you're the owner of the chart, the 'export' icon will display and allow you to download all chart content as .csv data, and all meta data as a markdown formatted plain text file.
Clone chart¶
All public charts, and all charts created by yourself, can be cloned. This will duplicate the parent chart and all its subcharts, and save to the database with you as the owner. All linked charts will be preserved, so there is a chance that when cloning someone else's chart, their private charts will be inaccessible to you. You will then need to edit your cloned chart(s) accordingly. You must be logged in to see this option.
'Like' a chart¶
Show your appreciation by 'liking' a chart. All liked charts will be added to a special 'liked charts' folder which can be accessed from the folders page. You must be logged in to be able to see this option.
Report a chart¶
If a chart is problematic in any way, such as rolling errors, formatting issues or a potential copyright violation, you can report the chart. This will give us a chance to follow up with the original author.
Folders¶
Chartopia has folders and they behave even better than your typical desktop folder structure. The reason is because a chart can appear in many folders. Removing a chart from a folder doesn't permanently delete the chart either (that can be done in a separate step). For those familiar with Unix, think of the charts as symbolically linked files within a directory structure.
Note that a parent folder will show charts that have been added to it, and chart that appear in descendant folders.
Collections¶
Think of Collections as a way to package up a theme of charts. With some cover art, it creates a published feel. More thorough document is required, but for the time being, there is a video tutorial that covers creating Collections.
Saving dice rolls¶
All rolls can be saved for future reference. Often there are situations where a rolled result is useful to keep for later, such as an NPC's name or perhaps an exotic artifact that has been discovered. Rolled results can be saved from the quick roll dialog and accessed from the "Roll history" where extra information can be added to provide some contextual information about the roll (if required).
